An entry ticket to the Indian film industry is not an easy one to get. Most of the times we have seen Celebrity kids getting comparatively an easy
entry to the industry. But, the legacy could provide entry tickets alone and to
sustain in the industry what matters is pure talent well supported by luck
factor. Considering this factor, we have seen many star kids making it big
outshining their ancestors while there are examples of others too who couldn’t
live up to the expectations.
Celebrity Kids who did outshine their parents:
Suriya & Karthi:
Suriya Sivakumar, the elder son of yesteryear Tamil film actor Sivakumar has carved his own name in Tamil film industry. He is one of those actors in Tamil cinema who urges for variety rules. Suriya had a very meager start and was initially despised by many. But, it was the movie ‘Friends’ that gave Suriya the much needed break and with ‘Kakka Kakka’ he became popular among the masses as well as the classes. From then on he didn’t have to look back.
Karthi, the younger brother of Suriya comparitively had a smooth start. His first film 'Paruthiveeran' earned him the tag of a good actor. He has got back to back success to his credit and has got a huge fan base in both Tamil and Telugu film industry.
‘Ilayathalapathy Vijay’, as he is fondly called by his fans, didn’t have a good start to his career. His father S A Chandrasekhar who is a renowned filmmaker introduced him in the early 1990’s. But it was in the late 1990’s that he made a great impact in the industry. He rose to stardom from then and now he has got a huge fan base pan India. He met the expectations bestowed over him and now he is a brand himself in Tamil film industry.
Hrithik Roshan is one among those star kids who tasted instantaneous success. With his first film, he established himself as the next big thing of Bollywood. Directed by his father Rakesh Roshan who is an actor himself, the film ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’ emerged as one of the biggest successes of Bollywood. With time, Hrithik found himself in the league of Bollywood superstars.
Karthik is the youngest son of R Muthuraman who was a leading actor in Tamil films. Karthik who has acted in more than 100 movies has had an enjoyable stint in the film industry. He won many awards that includes four filmfare awards of which three of them came in successive years. Karthik is fondly called as Navarasa Nayagan.
Prithviraj & Indrajith
Prithviraj is an actor who has been a strong presence in Malayalam film industry for the past 15 years. He came up at a time when Mammooty, Mohanlal and Dileep were ruling the Malayalam film industry. Over the years, he catapulted his fame and has won accolades from all sectors. He has got big success to his credit and also has won many awards. He also ventured into Bollywood and Kollywood, both proving successful. Prithviraj, undeniably is an actor to reckon with.
The same could be said about ‘Indrajith’, elder son of yesteryear actor Sukumaran. Indrajith is considered to be the best among the actors of this generation for his flexibility in performing various characters. He suits into any type of character and is a director’s delight.
Kajol has been a part of Bollywood since the early 90’s and she has carved her own place in filmworld. Through her films and acting abilities she was able to garner the tag of ‘one of the best actresses in Bollywood’ which would have surely made Tanuja(her mother) proud.

Mahesh Babu is the son of legendary film actor and yesteryear superstar Krishna Ghattamaneni. Mahesh Babu who is his youngest son too followed his path and went on to become an indisputable superstar of Telugu film industry. Dhanush is the son of film director/producer Kasthuri Raja and the actor made his debut through his father’s film Thulluvadho Ilamai. Celebrity kids who failed to make an impact:
Uday Chopra is the son of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra and brother of director Aditya Chopra. Much was expected from him as an actor and got a perfect launch pad for his career with the Yash Raj banner backing him heavily. But he couldn’t come up to the expectations and most of his movies were duds.The only exception is ‘Dhoom’ series where he has reserved a space for himself.
‘Esha deol’,daughter of Hema Malini and Dharmendra has had a career which is a mixed bag of success and failure. She didn’t have any big success to her name even after winning Filmfare award for Best debut for her film ‘Koi Mere Dil Se Poocche’. The only film of her which went on to attain blockbuster status was ‘Dhoom’
Mimoh’s father Mithun Chakraborty is a three time National Award winner and was a big superstar of his times. Unfortunately, same could not be said about Mimoh who stepped into bollywood in the year 2008 with the film 'Jimmy'.The film was a box office failure and so was the case with rest of his movies. Nothing great has been talked about his acting skills too.
‘Luv Sinha’ is the elder son of Shathrughnan Sinha who made his debut through the 2010 film 'Sadiyaan' directed by Raj Kanwar. The film fared poorly at the box office and the star son was criticized for his bad acting. This remains Luv Sinha’s sole film till date. Incidentally, Sonakshi Sinha also made her debut the same year and went on to become one of the topmost actresses of the industry.
Much was expected from Shanaavas, who is the son of Evergreen actor Prem Nazir. Shaanawas has been an active presence in the industry since 1977. Many movies were made having him playing the lead role but most of the movies performed poorly at the box office and his performances were not much appreciated. His career in films didn’t get that necessary mileage and couldn’t live up to the expectations bestowed on him as an actor.
Tanisha Mukherje, the daughter of Tanuja and younger sister of Kajol made her debut in Bollywood through 'Ssssh..' in the year 2003. The film didn’t help her at all and she tried her luck in other industries too but she was not well accepted. Her only successful film in Bollywood till now remains Sarkar directed by Ram Gopal Varma.
Rajiv Kapoor is the youngest among the sons of Raj Kapoor. Unlike his brothers Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor, he couldn’t earn a big name in the Industry as an actor. He even tried his hands on direction but that too didn’t reap him success.
The son of legendary director Bhagyraja and yeasteryear actress Poornima Bhagyaraj couldn’t taste the sweetness of success in both Malayalam and Tamil film industries.He made his debut through Tamil movie ‘Sakkarakkatti’ which wasn’t a big success. He has acted in a handful of movies but still is in waiting for a big success.
Vinu Mohan, the son of character actress Sobha and the grandson of legendary actor Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair entered the film industry through 'Nivedyam' directed by Lohithadas. He did make a decent debut and continued with success like ‘Cycle’. He couldn’t maintain that momentum further on and most of his movie flopped. His acting skills were also put under question due to continuous failures.
