It is a well-known fact that successful Malayalam films sell like hot cakes in remake markets, especially in Bollywood and Kollywood. We have seen the same scenario umpteen number of times. Now, let’s try reversing the roles. What if few of the Bollywood films were remade into Malayalam. Let us see the apt casting choices that we could make.
This would be a wishful thinking and could be one of the most ambitious projects. We would like to see none other than our Megastar Mammootty in the title role of Sarkar. The acting maestro is the one and only choice to do such a powerful role. And any guess regarding replacement of Abhishek Bachchan. Yes, our own DQ would fit in suitably to that role. Think this one as the film launching the father-son combo, it would definitely set the cash registers ringing.
2. A Wednesday:
Here, we are going to experiment a bit. ‘A Wednesday’ worked out well in the box office because of the unpredictability in the casting. When it came to Tamil we had Kamal Hassan and Mohanlal, which meant we lost the suspense. Hence, in Malayalam, we would like to give these roles to two of the finest supporting actors of the industry. Saikumar could definitely do the role done by Naseeruddin Shah in the original. Any guess about the actor who could do the other role? Yes, of course it's Siddique, whom we feel would fit in like T to the police character played by Anupama Kher in the original.
3. Mr India:
Recently, there was a forum post regarding what if Mr India was remade to Malayalam. A definite prospect indeed. As rightly mentioned in there, Dileep is the only actor who could reprise the title role done by Anil Kapoor with credibility. Dileep and bunch of kids would surely rock the screen. As far as the leading lady is concerned, Nayanthara would be an apt replacement for Sridevi. Right now, she is the only actress who could match the skills of an actress like Sridevi. Wait, it’s not over yet, what about the big role of Mogembo? This is going to be a gamble, but we feel Suresh Gopi would rock in this negative role.
4. Dil Chahta Hai:
The film was a trendsetter and still it has a cult following. If this comes in Malayalam, the Bangalore Days team would perfectly fit in to the original characters. Dulquer to play Aakash, Fahadh to play Sid and Nivin Pauly to play Sameer. Their camaraderie and good chemistry are sure to work out for this film too. Manju Warrier would be an apt replacement for the role done by Dimple Kapadia. Nitya Menen could replace Preity Zinta and Namitha Pramod would be the right replacement for Sonali Kulkarni.
5. Yeh Jawaani Hain Deewani:
One of the biggest blockbusters of Bollywood would be apt for a perfect Malayalam remake. This story of love and friendship has the scope to make it big in Malayalam too. Dulquer Salmaan would be the one and only choice to play the role of Kabir. With his uber cool looks and acting skills, he is perfect to replace the role done by Ranbir Kapoor. Coming to the role of Naina, Parvathy definitely tops the list. This pair is one of the best in Malayalam films and this film deserves such a pair. Tovino Thomas would be the right person to do the role of drunkard and flirtatious Avinash and Miya fits in to the role of Aditi Mehraa done by Kalki Koelchein.
6. Jab We Met:
‘Jab We Met’ is a one such cute movie that would work well in any language. As far as the casting is considered, Fahadh and Nazriya would ably do the characters of Aditya and Geet repectively. Nazriya is sure to bring in that bubbly and charming side of Geet on screen and Fahadh would fit in perfectly to the role of reserved Aditya. And we all would like to see this real life pair on screen yet again.
‘Darr’ was a big breakthrough in the career of Shah Rukh Khan. It was an intense love story surrounding the life of a psyche named Raj. Think about this film in Malayalam, probably it would be first of its kind. Jayasurya would ably do the role done by Shahrukh in the original. The actor has all the ability to portray this intense and psychic kind of character with negative shades in his own style adding cent percent credibility. Indrajith would be the apt choice for the role done by Sunny Deol standing firm against the character of Jayasurya. And to replace Kiran, it’s a tough task, but Namitha Pramod would stand as a good choice.
8. Munnabhai MBBS:
Well, if it was a few years back, the choices would have been different. But now, we would like to suggest Biju Menon, to do the Malayalam version of Munnabhai. There is no doubt in the ability of the actor or the reach that he has among the audience, he would definitely make Mallu Munnabhai memorable in his own unique style. The role of Circuit should be done by the new sensation Soubin Shaheer. He is sure to bring that frequent chuckles with elan. The tough task is to replace the role done by Boman Irani and considering the graph of the character Sreenivasan could do this one with ease.
Well, this is going to be a tough task, considering the big star cast the film has had. But, instinct says Mohanlal would fit in to the shoes of Amitabh Bachchan pretty well. The role of DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav would definitely be safe in his hands. Prithviraj can enter into the shoes of Akshay Kumar easily, doing the role with perfection. Vinay Fort would be the best choice to do the role done by Tusshaar in the original, a silent cop who makes an impact in the climax. Amala Paul would do justice to the role of beguiling beauty done by Aishwarya Rai. Fahadh Fazil would be the right actor to replace the intense negative character done by Ajay Devgan in the original. This ensemble star cast would surely rock the screen.
10. Tanu Weds Manu:
Consider Tanu Weds Manu in Malayalam, the first person that comes into our mind while visualizing the character of silent and well-mannered Manu would be Nivin Pauly. He can bring in that required charm to this character. And coming to the important role of Tanu, Nitya Menen would be the right choice and she can bring in that madness and lively attitude to Tanu’s character.
‘Swades’ undeniably is one of the best films of Shahrukh Khan. He played the character of Mohan Bhargav, a NASA scientist who returns to India. When it comes to Malayalam, we would definitely like to see Prithviraj doing this role. An intense role that has to be delivered through subtle performance and Prithvi is master in that. As far as the leading lady is concerned, Mamtha Mohandas would be the best choice to play the role of Gita, a well read and progressive thinking teacher.
