Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan Review: "Funny and entertaining!"

A major chunk of the audience watching movies these days is basically in that zone looking for pure entertainment and fun. Without caring for the content as such, these lot just look at movies as a time pass thing with nothing bothering them except the sole factor of entertainment so as to get themselves relieved from their day to day tensions. Good humor providing little smiles and occasional laughter is a major criteria these people look forward to in a movie.

If you belong to such a class and getting entertained is what you are aiming for while heading to watch a movie, then Nadirshah's second directorial venture Kattapanayilay Rithwik Roshan (Watched Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan? Rate.) is the choice of movie for you where fun, enjoyment and relaxation is a guaranteed thing just like director's debut venture. There are many one liners appearing at various moments in the movie as part of comedy which are quite popular in the social media but evoked some laughs.

Set in Kattapana, the story revolves around Krishnan alias Kichu who is the son of Kattapana Surendran. Surendran was a hardcore fan of actor Jayan and wanted to be the next Jayan when the actor dies in an accident while shooting. Though he aspired to become an actor one day, he could never make it and dreams of making his son an actor. Initially Kichu wasn't interested but later on he gets fascinated towards acting. Rest of the movie is a fun filled journey of Kichu narrated through some simple and comical situations.

The film in totality doesn't have a big and serious plot and is basically an entertainer with lot of space and situations filled with humour that makes us laugh and in the process provides wholesome entertainment and enjoyment to the audience. Nadirshah in one of his recent interview had remarked that the second film is always and more riskier and brings with it an added responsibility. With Amar Akbar Anthony becoming a smashing hit at the box office, the expectation from the audience would naturally be on the higher side for KRR even though it is not a big one compared to AAA that had a huge star cast as a support.

I would say the director has succeeded in meeting the expectation with a film that has comedy as the main ingredient served with lot of delicious and funny moments to tickle the funny side of our brain. Though not close to anywhere near an Amar Akbar Anthony, KRR has its moments that will make you laugh and also has some touching moments towards the end. Like his previous film that came out strongly against child abuse, this movie also has got some messages in it that have been conveyed without a preachy feel in it.

Vishnu Unnikrishnan who himself has scripted the film along with Bibin George enacts the role of Kichu. Considering the character requirement, he was apt for the role that had lot of innocence in it. Dharmajan plays Kichu's friend Dasappan with success and the duo's combination scenes is one of the major highlight of the film. That one dialogue in the final stages between the two was a touching one and deserves an applause. Out of the two it was Dharmajan who was more effective with his comic timing.

Salim Kumar as Naxal Chandran tried to bring back the memories of his vintage days with a character that was comical in appearance as well as the way in which he talks but it was not as effective as I expected. Siddhique as always is reliable in any role and this time apart from being serious and sentimental there was a tone of humour in his character in the initial stages. Both the female leads Prayaga Martin and the other one whose name I am not sure of were okay but nothing spectacular. Siju Wilson and Rahul Madhav appear in cameo roles.

Cinematography was neatly handled and edits were not bad either. Music is by Nadirshah himself and it was a good attempt as the songs were mainly situation specific. Bijibal's background score was on the okay territory.

Overall, Kattapanayilay Rithwik Roshan is not as colorful and a mass one like an Amar Akbar Anthony but is a little film with little stars that has moments to laugh if you do not dig too much into the story and the logical side. In a nutshell, based on the entertainment the film offered to me, I would put it as a one time watchable above average fun film with pure humour in it.
